Nuno Brito

Alexandre Nuno Vaz Baptista de Vieira e Brito, Director of General Veterinary, Professor in Sciences and Animal Resources in Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo ÔÇô Higher Agricultural School, has a degree in Veterinary Medicine by the Higher Veterinary Medicine School, Technic University of Lisbon, MSc in Animal Production by the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies and PhD in Veterinary Sciences ÔÇô University of Tr├ís-os-Montes e Alto Douro. The main areas of research are in field of chemical and sensory characterization of Portuguese traditional foods and food qualification, food safety and quality, animal genetic resources with special emphasis on genetic characterization of indigenous breeds. Experience reinforced by the participation in several research, innovation and entrepreneurship projects working closely with food producers and by teaching activities on food quality and food safety, genetic, nutrition, food safety and quality, and others.

Ana Paula Vale

Ana Paula Vale, lecturer and researcher in Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo ÔÇô Higher Agricultural School, has a degree in Biology by University of Porto ÔÇô Faculty of Sciences, MSc in Plant Nutrition, Soil Fertility and Fertilization by Technic University of Lisbon ÔÇô Institute of Agronomy, and MSc in Science and Technology in Agro-Food Industry - specialization in Food safety by University of Vigo ÔÇô Ourense Faculty of Sciences. Is a PhD Student in Pharmaceutical Sciences - Nutrition and Food Chemistry from Faculty of in Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Porto. The main areas of research are in field of evaluation of bioactive compounds, antioxidants and anticancer potential of food, food safety and quality especially in chemical, sensory and microbiological characterisation of Portuguese traditional foods. Experience reinforced by the participation in several research projects working closely with food producers, by the inter-laboratory collaboration with the University of Porto and the University of Tras-os-Montes and y teaching activities on food quality and food safety areas.┬á

Eduarda Oliveira

Eduarda Cerqueira Oliveira is a researcher project in Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. Studied at the Higher Agricultural School from the Polytechnic Institute of┬á Viana do Castelo, where obtained the degree in Agricultural Engineering. Later on, concluded a postgraduate degree in Health and Food Safety, from the Polytechnic Institute of┬á Viana do Castelo and now, is finishing┬áthe MSc degree on Food Quality and Safety at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragan├ža. The main research interests are in the field of chemical and sensory characterization of traditional Portuguese food and products, enhancement of traditional products, food quality and security and genetic characterization of indigenous breeds. Has also many experience on training farmers in agro-food production. Experience reinforced by its active participation in several research projects in the areas of quality and food safety and genetic characterization of indigenous breeds.

Gabriela Candeias

Maria Gabriela Martinez P. Candeias, researcher in Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo - with a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the College of Agriculture of Ponte de Lima, Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, achieving a master degree in Food Quality and Safety at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragan├ža. The main research areas are in the field of chemical and sensory characteristics of traditional Portuguese food, and food security. Experience enhanced by participation in several research projects in of food safety and quality areas.

Isabel Afonso

Isabel Afonso Paula, assistant lecturer and researcher in Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo ÔÇô Agrarian College, has a degree in Food Engineering by Catholic University of Portugal - College of Biotechnology, MSc in Biological Engineering by Univerty of Minho, Portugal and is a PhD student in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Porto, Portugal (Faculty of Engineering). The main areas of research are in the field of food engineering, particularly heat transfer applications and food quality, chemical, sensory and microbiological characterisation of Portuguese traditional foods, food safety and food biotechnology, namely in dairy products applications. Experience reinforced by the participation in several research projects working closely with food producers and from teaching activities on food quality and food safety areas.┬á

J├║lio C├ęsar

Julio Cesar Oliveira Lopes, lecturer and researcher in Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo ÔÇô Agrarian College, has a degree in Animal Science ┬áby University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro, MSc in Animal Production - Food and Nutrition by University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro and is PhD student in Marine Biology and Aquaculture from the University of Vigo (Faculty of Science). The main research areas are in the field of genetic characterization and recovery of autochthonous genetic resources, application of genetic methods in detection and traceability and in studies of fishery resources conservation and environmental quality in coastal areas. Has been responsible for research projects and community support in partnership with producers associations. It is responsible for analytical services of the ESA / IPVC and has developed teaching activities in the areas of biochemistry, physiology, genetic engineering and aquaculture.

 

Laura Soares

Maria Laura da Costa Soares, assistant lecturer and researcher at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo ÔÇô Agrarian College, has a degree in engineering of Animal Science from the University Tr├ís-os Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal, MSc in Hydrobiology by University of Porto, Portugal (Faculty of Sciences) and is PhD student in Veterinary Science from the University of Porto (Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar). The main research areas are in the field of production of indigenous breeds, the quality of their products and genetic characterization. Participation in research projects in close collaboration with producers associations of indigenous breeds, and from teaching activities in the field of animal production.

 

Sofia Rodrigues

Ana Sofia Rodrigues, assistant lecturer and researcher in Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo ÔÇô Agrarian College, has a degree in Agricultural Engineering by University of Tr├ís-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal, MSc in Sustainable Agriculture and Horticulture by Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal and is a PhD student in Quality, Safety and Food Technology from the University of Vigo, Spain (Faculty of Sciences-Ourense). The main areas of research are in the field of field of: Production and postharvest technologies; Nutritional and functional characteristics of vegetables; Postharvest and processing technologies of vegetables; Food safety and food law. Experience reinforced by the participation in several research projects working closely with food producers, from teaching activities and in the implementation of quality and food safety standards and auditorships in agri-food businesses (ISO, GLOBALGAP, BRC, IFS).

 

Carlos Fernandes

Carlos Fernandes is the lead faculty in tourism studies at the Polytechnic Institute of┬áViana do Castelo, Portugal. He obtained his B.A. at Syracuse University (USA), M.A. at┬áRutgers University (USA) and Ph.D. at Bournemouth University (UK).┬áHis interests┬áinclude alternative tourism as a strategy for rural development, heritage and cultural┬átourism and tourism destination management.┬áIn the last few years, he has conducted┬áresearch and/or consultancy within various special interest areas, including Tourism┬áand Gastronomy, Cultural Tourism, and Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage.┬áFor the last┬áfive years, he has been the director of the Tourism Laboratory, where Carlos directed┬áthe operations of the lab, including the coordination of research projects with EU┬áfunding.┬áHe is course leader of the┬á Licenciatura (B.A.) in Tourism Studies (UNWTO┬áTedqual certified).┬á Carlos also cooperates in World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO)┬áactivities including┬á ÔÇťtraining the trainerÔÇŁ courses and the development of teaching┬ámanuals for countries in Africa (Angola and Zimbabwe) and supports training of┬áentrepreneurship for women in Mozambique. He is an official Auditor of the UNWTO┬áTedQual Certification, in which he audits tourism courses worldwide.┬áCarlos has┬ápresented papers in national and international conferences and has a substantial┬ánumber of publications in his area of interest.
